DRS Technologies, known in the unmanned systems world for its infrared sensors, has introduced a small, low-cost micro-gimbal for use in reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition missions. The i2i-3, which made its market debut at AUVSI's Unmanned Systems North America 2010, includes three payloads: a long-wave infrared camera, visible-light camera and a laser pointer, all combined in a weather-hardened, 3.5-inch diameter, stabilized package that weighs less than 1.5 pounds. The i2i-3 was designed to survive high shock loads as well as submersion into water should a UAS crash-land.
