A team from the University of North Dakota finished at the top of the autonomous search and rescue competition at the fourth Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Outback Challenge in Australia, although they fell just short of winning the top prize of $50,000. The team took home $15,000 for locating a fictional lost hiker, the hapless "Outback Joe," but a computer glitch kept them from dropping a water bottle into his location. However, they came the closest to completing the task of any team in the competition's history.
