摘要

As unmanned technology mimics the best of nature, science could soon endow humans with attributes first seen in crustaceans some 550 millions ago-the hardened outer shell known as the exoskeleton.rnLong dreamt by humans and first built in rudimentary form by General Electric in the 1960s, the powered exoskeleton not only protects the wearer from threat but exponentially enhances strength and mobility, promising to leverage robotics technology and artificial intelligence to deliver super-human strength to the soldier while allowing the weak and infirm to simply walk.rnThough for decades researched by military and industry, building first clunky, hydraulic monsters literally out of step with their human core, today's exoskeleton works in tandem with the wearer by leveraging true artificial intelligence. The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency began work on the exoskeleton nearly a decade ago with Sarcos Research Laboratory in Salt Lake City, the University of California at Berkeley and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., eventually choosing Sarcos to build the final version of the fast-moving, heavily armored suit.
