Irvine, Calif.-based 2d3 Inc. recently announced the release of its Visually Assisted Landing System, or VALS, which aims to increase the survivability of unmanned aerial vehicles by auto-landing using visual assisting software and hardware.rnMost UAVs don't have an automatic landing capability because of their payload limitations, according to the company. However, the VALS hardware integrates with existing onboard systems and doesn't require specialized navigation equipment on the vehicle.
