Ken Smith and Bruce Robison, research scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in Moss Landing, Calif., found that a relatively small and simple remotely operated vehicle (ROV) was just the tool needed to make a startling discovery in the Antarctic.
