Researchers around the world continue to make advances, intending to create machines that would perform intuitive tasks autonomously, without humans pushing joysticks to guide them.rnIt has been 11 years since Deep Blue, an IBM computer, beat then-world champion Gary Kasparov at chess. And not too long ago, the idea that a self-guided vacuum cleaner would patrol the house autonomously-without human guidance-was considered something straight out of "The Jetsons." But since its founding in 1990, the Massachusetts-based iRobot company has sold to consumers more than three million self-guided units that do exactly that.
