Movement toward the arming of unmanned ground systems (UGS) has been glacial compared with that of unmanned aerial systems,in part because of concern about safety and liability.rnIndustry observers cite problems during development of the Foster-Miller SWORDS armed UGS,which has been field-tested in Iraq,as the principal reason for the concerns.SWORDS,or Special Weapon Observation Reconnaissance and Direct-Action System,is a Talon UGV armed with a remotely-operated M249 5.56mm machine gun.
