Recent developments in European Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) programs provide an intriguing barometer of the progress towards European aerospace consolidation. In spite of the rhetoric about commonality in future military programs, UAVs provide a clear example of the difficulties in turning this ambition into reality. The core countries of the EADS aerospace conglomerate, France and Germany, have a troubled relationship on tactical UAVs, which helps to explain the difficulties in establishing common European UAV ventures over the past few years.
