"This offshoot of our core UAV business wasrnBAI's Dual Sensor Overhead Imagery Pod.rna response to a need and neatly fills a huge niche for a large group of potential customers."rnThe company's imagery pod line was born out of frustration in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, when unmanned aerial vehicles were not allowed to fly due to airspace safety concerns. The U.S. Air Force wanted to fly BAI's small Evolution UAV for surveillance, but instead it was forced to use their imaging capability in a curious way: one vehicle was duct-taped to a manned helicopter, another was mounted on a tripod and a third was put on the roof of a Hilton hotel. The systems discovered 15 fires that had gone undetected.
