Several unmanned vehicle programs envision a future in which UVs work together in teams (or pods) supervised by a human operator: The U.S. Air Force wants pods of Predators and armed Predator Bs to perform hunter-killer missions, and U.S. Navy and Army programs also call for teaming multiple types of vehicles.rnThe current state of control technology falls short of this vision, however. While autonomous vehicle control is possible because it is more tractable, true multi-vehicle control is still in the conceptual stage. Some planning tools only manage a single vehicle type, while others are designed for multiple vehicle types, but only handle one vehicle at a time. Furthermore, many control stations require more than one operator to control a single vehicle Researchers at OR Concepts Applied (ORCA) have designed tools for multi-vehicle control, including automated planning tools, analysis capabilities, and human-system interface (HSI) elements.
