The U.S. Navy prompted some relief when it awarded Northrop Grumman the contract for the Unmanned Combat Air Systems Demonstration (UCAS-D), intended to study the feasibility of operating UAS on aircraft carrier decks.rnThe Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments has been promoting the UCAS-D, saying it could be revolutionary for naval aviation and warning that it needs to be supported, and even held a briefing for lawmakers before the contract was announced. The announcement of the $635.8 million contract could mean "smoother sailing in Congress," says Tighe Parmenter, the company's manager of business development for the X-47B.
