German plans for the development of one of Europe's most sophisticated Air Force-operated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fleets are rapidly advancing with key acquisitions to commence over the next six months. In parallel, a major re-structuring of operational and organizational arrangements for reconnaissance imagery is being planned. The new architecture, which includes high altitude, long endurance (HALE) and medium altitude, long endurance (MALE) systems, was a major focal point of discussions at the highly successful AUVSI-Flight International Unmanned Systems Europe 2005 conference.
