Now that those of us in the media are being laid off from our cushy jobs of collecting money for pontificating on other people's hard times, we're seeing more headlines about recession and about the parallels between today and the bathtub-gin, stock-speculating, and breadline Depression era from 1929 to 1939.I can't wait until the parallels between Dubya and Herbert Hoover start. At Upside, our perspective is somewhat different. We're not Generation Y writers and editors. Our parents lived through the Depression; we know the difference. But, for the record, here are the main reasons why our current recession is more like the 18-month doldrums of 1982 to 1983 than it is like the Great Depression.
