Somewhere west of Hollywood but east of the beach is a nondescript industrial building that 6-foot-something Nolan Bushnell prowls with a smile and the enthusiasm that will mark this man, one jumps to conclude, as long as he lives. The eclectic office decor is playful, confident, and creative. Black-painted walls depict the ideas underlying the company. The names and faces of people, whimsical or random thoughts (or maybe not), and the designs for the future Internet-based gaming systems that UWink is building are drawn on the walls in brightly colored chalk. And when, after 40 years of ups and downs, the grinning founder, chairman, and CEO of UWink comes out to greet you, you're inspired to think that the good guys may not win all the time, but the world is a better place because of them.
