SOUTH Korea's Samsung C&T has landed a $2 billion-plus engineering, procurement and construction contract from Qatargas for work on giant storage tanks required for the first phase of its North Field Expansion (NFE) project. Qatargas' parent Qatar Petroleum (QP) confirmed this week that it has awarded a key EPC contract to Samsung for the expansion of the liquefied natural gas storage and loading facilities at Ras Laffan Industrial City. "The contract, valued at more than $2 billion (including options), was awarded on a lump-sum basis and is the second major onshore EPC contract award for the NFE project," QP said. QP's announcement confirmed a recent report by Upstream, which said the South Korean giant was poised to win the storage tanks job.
