KAROON Energy's application to surrender its offshore exploration permit in the frontier Great Australian Bight has not been accepted by the regulator. Karoon said it was advised on 15 December 2020 that its application had not been approved. "Karoon continues to work with authorities to understand the reasons behind the refusal to approve the surrender application," Karoon said in its latest quarterly report. Block EPP 46 in the Ceduna sub-basin was awarded to Karoon on 6 October 2016, according to the regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator. The six-year term for the 17,649-square kilometre permit is due to expire on 5 October 2022. Karoon applied to relinquish the permit on 3 October 2019.
