A national study shows online dating is surging during the coronavirus outbreak-and, last year, online dat-ers were scammed out of $362,000,-000, a 70% increase from the previous 12 months. It seems clear that catfishing scams are bound to go up even higher in 2020, especially in places where the coronavirus is more prominent. So-cialCatfish.com-a resource to verify online identities-has released a study on the Most At-Risk States For Online Dating Scams, using data from the FBI. The five states with the most victims are California, Florida, Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania. Those with the fewest victims are Vermont, South Dakota, North Dakota, Washington, D.C., and Wyoming.
