Indeed, those who intend to engage in mob violence and destruction are in for quite a greeting if they do it in Florida.Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law the toughest anti-riot bill in the nation. For the largely silent majority of Americans who support the rule of law, and seek an end to wanton destruction, looting, arson, murder, and assaults, Florida's "Combatting Violence, Disorder, and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act" (the so-called "Anti-Riot Bill") is a model piece of legislation worthy of replication in every state.Were it so replicated, there would be far fewer riots and those that did occur would be snuffed out with a swift and overwhelming police response with the full backing of the state, even if municipalities otherwise would de-fund the police. That is because this bill imposes on local authorities limits and procedures that make reduction in police funding extremely difficult without full state support. While freeing the citizenry of red tape, Florida now entangles its local governments in red tape to guard against precipitous reductions in the protective compass of police power.
