AIV, Italian Vacuum Association, was established in Milan in September 1963 with the aim of fostering the diffusion of the knowledge in vacuum science and technology and promoting the communication between basic and industrial research in the vacuum related fields. First President was Ing. Paolo della Por-ta (SAES Getters SpA) who recognized the need to establish an effective network between industrial companies, universities and research centers operating in the field of vacuum sciences and technologies. The Association is now organized in 8 technical divisions (Applied Surface Science, Electronic Materials and Processing, Nanometer Structures, Plasma Science and Technique, Surface Engineering, Surface Science, Thin film, Vacuum Science and Technology) and is active member of the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA).
