This volume is a welcome addition to the Buildings of England, replacing the first edition published in 1966. Like all the new Pevsners this is a much weightier volume; the 1966 edition covered the historic county of Warwickshire and Birmingham in 529 pages. The text of the new volume is 51% greater, but excludes Birmingham and the eastern fringes of the West Midlands conurbation, in part following the line of the M42. As Pickford admits, this 'division is not ideal'.
