The US Air Force won't require its UH-1N Huey replacement to carry more troops in spite of prior indications to the contrary. The service on Dec. 2 released a draft request for proposal (RFP) regarding its planned replacement of the UH-1N fleet currently used to guard nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile sites and to provide VIP transport. The new aircraft will have to be armed and armored, fly at a cruise speed of 135 kt (250 km/h), cover a distance of 225 nm (417 km), and remain airborne for 3 hours before refueling. However, Defense News reported that the draft RFP only requires the aircraft to carry a minimum of nine fully loaded troops - the same capacity as the UH-1N - in spite of indications by the commander of Air Force Global Strike Command in September that the replacement would have to carry more.
