Well into its 10-year campaign, the International Helicopter SafetyTeam (IHST) has accomplished much. It has analyzed accidents, identified predominant causes and produced many tools to help pilots avoid repeating the most common mistakes. However, that industry-government team has little data to demonstrate its efforts are driving yearly worldwide helicopter accidents down toward its ambitious goal of an 80% reduction from 2006 (when AHS International led the establishment of IHST) to 2016. IHST is also uncertain whether the measures it developed are reaching pilots and operators.
