Wayne Johnson's Rotorcraft Aeromechanics is a masterpiece. Aeromechanical analysis is the basis for any successful rotorcraft design, and this book is an authoritative reference on the theory and practice of its underlying arts and sciences. It is broader in scope than Johnson's 1980 book, Helicopter Theory, and offers more modern content, bringing the reader up to date on theoretical and engineering developments. Yet it also retains the essential contents of Helicopter Theory. The focus of this review is on Rotorcraft Aeromechanics' new content. Roughly 50% of the book is devoted to aerodynamics and performance (30% on basic aerodynamics and performance and 20% on advanced aerodynamics), while 35% focuses on dynamics and aeroelasticity, 8% on flight dynamics and 6% on noise. Less than 1 % is devoted to comprehensive analysis.
