In 1991, the Dutch Ministry of Defence decided to join a pan-European project to start the development of the possible replacement of the fleet of Westland Lynx helicopters in use by the Navy for ship and land operations. This project finally resulted in the start of NHIndustries - a joint venture of Eurocopter (31.25%), Eurocopter Deutschland (31.25%), AgustaWestland (32%) and Fokker Aerostructures (5.5%) - based in Aix-en-Provence, France.The company has developed the NH90 helicopter in two versions, the Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) and NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) its customer, NAHEMA - the NATO Helicopter Management Agency.
