This Fall marks 50 years since the maiden flight of the first production CH-46A Sea Knight (known then as the HRB-1) for the U.S. Marine Corps, a significant milestone by any standard and certainly for an aircraft still in frontline service. Affectionately known as the "Phrog" among its pilots, crewmembers and maintainers.the H-46 has served admirably around the world, in peace and at war. Even in the twilight of its career, the Sea Knight continues to serve faithfully in many roles: performing Search and Rescue (SAR) in the United States; engaging in joint disaster relief training in the Philippines; and conducting general transport missions in the deserts of Afghanistan.
