Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) integrate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) payloads, ground control stations and support equipment to perform their missions.The US Navy is buying an "endurance upgrade" to the MQ-8 Fire Scout system that prime contractor Northrop Grumman figures will integrate 95% of the current electronics and 97% of existing software with a more productive vehicle.Trading today's MQ-8B for the MQ-8C also leverages control stations, datalinks and operating procedures already tested at sea (see"Fire Up the Fire Scout," Vertiflite, Summer 2011).
