The first Air Ambulance Company deployed to a combat theater with HH-60M Black Hawks comes home from Iraq in September. From November 2010 to July 2011, Charlie Company of the 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment flew 2,498.8 hours in Operation New Dawn. The 12 new MEDEVAC helicopters flown and maintained by Army National Guardsmen from Vermont and Massachusetts sustained better than 92% Operational Readiness and responded to 200 Urgent, 192 Priority, and four Routine calls. One HH-60M crew launched on three Urgent MEDEVAC missions in one day, in one instance with less than half-mile visibility, and delivered patients to care within the Golden Hour required to maximize survival rates. With US combat forces drawing down in Iraq, Army Medevac is refocused on the hard fight in Afghanistan, and another aeromedical outfit is preparing to deploy to Operation Enduring Freedom with the new air ambulance.
