Not many months ago, manufacturers were enjoying robust sales that were adding to already-strong order backlogs. A number of firms were bumping up against production capacity limits as they attempted to get ever more helicopters out the doors to their customers. Suppliers and vendors were facing the same capacity issues, as companies up and down the supply chain were under pressure to boost output.rnHowever, the U.S. economy slowed dramatically in the second half of 2008, and this slowdown was exacerbated by a collapse in U.S. financial markets in the fall. The economic crisis gradually spread to other regions of the world. The effects of the economic meltdown have been felt within the rotorcraft industry in the form of reduced demand and slowing orders.
