The president of the AHS Redstone Chapter, David Cripps, welcomed over 270 engineers, scientists and technicians to Huntsville, Alabama on February 10-11, 2009 to discuss recent developments in Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). Sponsored by the AHS Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) Committee and the AHS Product Support Committee, the meeting was held in conjunction with the 35th Annual Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Aviation Product Support Symposium, making the event an "Army Aviation Week." In his keynote address,rnMG James Myles, Commanding General of the US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), reported on efforts underway by Army Aviation to equip its entire fleet by 2015 with digital source collectors, the creation of a CBM Data Warehouse, and the establishment of a CBM Office within AMCOM responsible for promoting CBM. These steps should enable Army Aviation to change from a labor-intensive scheduled maintenance program to a predictive and reliability-centered maintenance program. New aircraft monitoring systems, including HUMS, offer vital predictive and usage information for military aircraft.
