Mark Betzina, Acting Director of the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex at NASA Ames Research Center, announced that as of January 28, 2008, the NFAC, located at Moffett Field, California, had achieved full operating capability for rotorcraft testing, a major milestone in the restoration of one of the nation's most treasured aeronautical test facilities. This comes after a two-year refurbishment and reactivation effort by the Air Force's Arnold Engineering Development Center, including the installation of a new, state-of-the-art data system. A team of Air Force, NASA and Army technicians completed a demonstration test utilizing a full-scale UH-60 rotor mounted on the Large Rotor Test Apparatus operating in the 40-by-80 ft test section at speeds up to 150 knots.
