摘要

I was friends with Ralph Alex. He actually escorted me around my first Paris Air Show offering me tantalizing stories about the various companies and exhibitors and introducing me to the enormous cadre of people he knew, especially the Russians. I don't say this to name drop but just to point out that I am qualified to speak about "older." What prompted my lead was that I did see an interesting headline the other day in US News & World Report - "Keeping Older Workers on the Job." It seems companies are concerned about losing their brain trust and they are trying to keep their more experienced "older" workers at their jobs. According to a Northrop Grumman representative the company has 122,000 employees and they figure they will lose half of them to retirement over the next five to ten years. I have heard this same thought expressed by several helicopter company engineering vice presidents as they attempt to figure out how to retain their experienced workers and also attract intelligent young people to their companies.
