The 34th European Rotorcraft Forum (ERF) was held at the Venue Conference Center in Liverpool, in the North West of England, from September 16-18, 2008. Liverpool, with its rich heritage as one of the world's busiest shipping ports, is the 2008 European City of Culture, with the city also recently celebrating its 800th anniversary. The location for the meeting was appropriate, as Liverpool and the North West area of England is rich in aerospace manufacturing, with Airbus, BAE Systems, BBA Aviation Group, and other aerospace subcontractors contributing heavily to the local economy. The aerospace engineering department at the University of Liverpool is also just a short walk away from the downtown area. The city of Liverpool has undergone some remarkable transformations during the last two or three years, the Albert Dock area in particular being renovated into an attractive and vibrant area with apartments, hotels, businesses, shops, restaurants and bars, and with one of Europe's largest new shopping centers located just across the street.
