The Coast Guards' fleet of 96 Eurocopter HH-65 Dolphin helicopters has passed its one million flight hour milestone, marking a major operational achievement for the twin-engine rotary-wing aircraft that performs patrol, law enforcement and rescue missions throughout the United States. Recently, the fleet completed a conversion to the HH-65C design, which incorporates engine and system upgrades to provide greater power and maneuverability and increased safety margins. HH-65s operate from 17 Coast Guard Stations throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Armed versions of the HH-65 provide protection for the U.S. capital region and the interdiction of vessels at sea. Search and rescue is a critical mission of the HH-65 Dolphin, which saw extensive duty in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The HH-65 is a version of the Eurocopter Dauphin helicopter, of which 983 have been delivered worldwide.
