In late March, CHC Helicopters participated in what Aviation International News called "the largest passenger ship rescue in modern times." The Viking Sky, operated by Switzerland-based Viking Cruises, suffered engine failure on March 23 and anchored in the Hustadvika Bay, 300 ft (90 m) from submerged rocks and only 900 ft (275 m) from Norway's western shore. Responding to a 2:00 pm call from Norway's National Rescue Service, six rescue crews onboard Sikorsky S-92 and Airbus AS332 helicopters operated by CHC conducted a successful rescue operation despite reported 50-ft (15-m) waves and 45-knot winds, hoisting 479 people over 18 hours from ship to shore.
