The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently arrested a drone operator in Hollywood, California, after he crashed it into a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter during a pre-dawn flight on Sept. 18. According to the Los Angeles Times, the drone impacted the aircraft on the nose, antenna and bottom cowling, despite evasive maneuvers by the helicopter pilot. The helicopter made an emergency landing. In addition to damage to the helicopter, the destroyed drone also damaged an automobile when it plummeted to the ground. Meanwhile, a drone was captured flying around the helipad at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, immediately after an AeroMed medevac helicopter landed. A drone also delayed the arrival and transport of a child to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 6, according to YCityNews.com. US federal regulations prohibit flying drones near manned aircraft, above 400 ft (120 m) or within 5 miles (8 km) of a landing area.
