Not a day goes by that we don't see news about companies in the advanced air mobility (AAM) space. It is a growing industry with new entrants added on a weekly basis - VFS now counts more than 400 projects in the market. It has attracted the interest and investment of legacy aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), automotive companies, tech companies, airlines, venture capitalists, private equity and special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). With such a complex industry, SMG Consulting has been approached by companies looking to understand the intricacies of the AAM market. We discovered a clear need for simple and meaningful guidance to understand which OEMs among all the industry entrants are more likely to certify their vehicles, produce them in the high quantities forecasted in their business plans and put them into service. The idea behind the creation of the AAM Reality Index was to satisfy this need.
