Funding for the third ship of this class was requested in the FY12 budget, at a cost of JPY119 billion ($1.59 billion). Assuming that the budget is approved, this implies that the new ship will be completed a year after the 22DDH. After this fourth ship has been completed the building program will be terminated, since the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has no requirement for additional ships and no exports of the type are plausible.
