摘要

A recent study from The Water Institute at the University of North Carolina and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has called for a new, rationalised global standard for improvements to household potable water and sanitation access. The study, published in online journal PLOS ONE, explains that current access benchmarks established by the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP) treat water and sanitation differently, masking deficits in household water access. The JMP will shortly be setting new targets for global progress in the new Sustainable Development Goals, which means the study is likely to be significant.
