The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Oct. 8 (73 FR 59381) proposed a rule that would revise and update the data requirements for antimicrobial pesticides. Since many antimicrobial pesticides typically are rinsed down the drain, EPA considered the potential effects of pesticides that are discharged into wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The proposed rule addresses the issue of down-the-drain antimicrobials by proposing four new data requirements for use in a screening-level assessment on the fate of antimicrobials that reach a WWTP.
