Weight-relatively heavy empty weight and thus the lack of significant useful load-often is an issue for a seaplane, especially when making a long-distance extended journey such as to the Alaska cabin system Tom Bass describes in the accompanying story. His many years of making such trips gave Tom lots of opportunities to figure out ways to shave pounds from both the empty weight of his Cessna 180 and his payload of camping gear and supplies for two people.
