CubCrafters, manufacturers of the 180-hp Carbon Cub LSA and its Amateur-Built Experimental sibling, the Carbon Cub EX-2, has come up with a program called Carbon Cub FX in which a buyer spends just seven days total at the Yakima, Washington, factory participating in the construction process. "Carbon Cub FX turns the famil-iar 'builder assist' convention upside down," says Jim Richmond, founder and CEO of CubCrafters. Instead of participating in the assembly of the aircraft, the buyer spends five days at the factory helping to fabricate the parts. CubCrafters then builds the airplane from the parts. The owner returns for two days at the end of the build process to help with the finishing touches, and is awarded a complete, EAB-certificated aircraft.
