Phillip Panepinto, founder of Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, on the west bank of the Mississippi River in metropolitan New Orleans, passed away in May. He was 88. Born in Chicago but a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a World War Ⅱ Navy veteran, Panepinto loved flying, golfing, and water sports. He founded Southern Seaplane in 1954 to service inland oil rigs in marshy southern Louisiana, and to provide on-demand seaplane charter, and advanced seaplane training. Southern Seaplane is now owned and operated by Panepinto's son, Lyle, his wife, Rhonda, and their daughter, Lacey, who have grown the company to become "the largest seaplane operation in the entire Gulf South."
