After years of passionate efforts by Aaron Faegre of the Columbia Seaplane Pilots Association, SPA Oregon Field Director Bill Wainwright, and others, Oregon's legislature has banned seaplanes and powered boats from Waldo Lake. Even though this multiyear battle seems to have come to an end with passage of Oregon Senate Bill 602, SPA is firmly committed to continue to educate both the public and the decision-makers on the facts surrounding the concerns and objections that were presented and ultimately led to passage of the bill. The public, mostly a small number of environmental and special-interest groups, expressed concern and opposition to seaplane access to Waldo Lake. It is believed that fewer than 10 seaplanes visit the 10-square-mile lake annually.
