摘要

Imagine you've just landed your seaplane on a northern lake. You need to taxi to a dock to unload your passengers, but the way is blocked by a huge "boom" of logs covering many acres, of water. What to do? Jump the boom! Log booms and the inconvenience and hazards they sometimes posed were a constant concern to bush pilots in Maine when I first became involved. The 1950s through the 60s and early 70s were a busy, exciting time for bush flying in Maine, and I was fortunate enough to be a small-time participant. This was before the several thousand miles of graveled logging roads that now crisscross the north Maine wilderness were constructed.
