According to the preface, the aim of this volume was to compare water management and policy in two regions that both face water scarcity-Israel and the Palestinian Territory and the Colorado River Basin-and to introduce the temporal context into the discussion. The result is seventeen quite diverse chapters. Most have an introductory character and provide interesting information on for instance the development of the water infrastructure in Israel and in Arizona (chapters 1 and 2), the institutional setup for transboundary water management in the Arizona-Mexico border region (chapter 3), climate change (chapters 11 and 12), or the problems of water reuse in Israel (chapter 14). A few chapters can be seen best as practitioner's points of view or as part of ongoing political discussions (chapters 17 and 13). But the true highlights of this volume are three chapters that report about original research (chapters 4, 5 and 8).
