摘要

This book is excellent reading for all researchers, consultants and policy makers who are seeking to implement sound water management practices as part of the 'green economy' agenda. First impressions are that the viewpoints and conclusions of this book are authoritative, with a sound evidentiary base. The book itself is based on the chapter on water in the ground-breaking Green Economy Report released during the World Water Week conference in Stockholm in 2011. To put this in context, the Green Economy Report is an important component of the United Nations Environment Programme-led Green Economy Initiative launched in late 2008. One of the editors of this book, Mike Young, of the University of Adelaide, was the lead author of the mentioned water chapter. The other editor, Christine Esau, is the editor of several background technical papers within that same chapter on water, to which more than 30 outstanding members of the global reference group were advisers. Moreover, the contributors to Investing in Water for a Green Economy include university professors, institutional researchers, water industry leaders, employees of water-related private-sector companies, and independent consultants from many countries and several continents around the world. Therefore, there is a notable variety and breadth of authors providing the collective literary basis for this book.
