摘要

This year, IWRA celebrates its 40th anniversary. We are pleased to present here a short summary of the milestones in the long history of the association (see Annex 1 for details). The idea to create the IWRA originated with a group of members of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), including Sandor Csallany, who has kindly provided a note of celebration in this issue. The articles of incorporation were signed on 29 November 1971 in the State of Wisconsin (USA). Ven Te Chow, a world-renowned Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the University of Illinois (USA), was invited to be the first President, and guided the IWRA through its initial years from 1972 to 1979.
