Z-Filter, which has operations in Australia and Europe, has developed a new filtration system designed for the continuous dewatering of slurries- the Z-300A. It operates on the principle of containment of solids while allowing water to pass through the filter or 'sock' and has been designed as a compact system with high throughput. The system uses a tubular loop of filter fabric (the 'sock') which opens to accept feed material and then closes to constrain it throughout the dewatering process. It then opens again to discharge the solids. This allows the Z-Filter to use fluid flows and mechanical manipulations which optimise the use of gravity a primary dewatering agent.
