Xylem has announced that it is to provide a dissolved air floatation (DAF) pretreatment system ahead of the Fujairah reverse osmosis desalination plant's membranes. The source water in the Gulf of Oman is subject to algal 'red tides', which contain large concentrations of potentially toxic microorganisms. Xylem's Leopold Clari-DAF system removes up to 95% of these organisams, says the company. The Fujairah 1 Independent Water and Power Plant is owned by Emirates Sembcorp Water & Power Company, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, Sembcorp Industries and Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA).
