摘要

Two reports have been issued highlighting the effect that natural disasters, fuelled by climate change, are having on the world's population and economies. A report from the Belgium-based Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) claims 2010 was the worst year for natural disaster in two decades. Meanwhile, the UN has issued a report that assesses the actions taken in relation to the Hyogo Framework for Action, the blueprint for avoiding losses caused by natural hazards. During the year, 373 natural disasters claimed the lives of over 296,800 people, affecting nearly 208 million and costing nearly $110 billion, according to annual data compiled by CRED and supported by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR).
